Rent Guideline Rate for 2022
The Province of Ontario sets a maximum amount that a Landlord can raise the monthly rent each year. The rent increase guideline for 2022 is 1.2%. This means a Landlord can raise the rent for most Tenants (exclusions do exist) without the approval of the Landlord and Tenant Board.
There is no rent control guideline for any new buildings, or new rental units that were first occupied after November 15, 2018. A Landlord can raise rent prices higher than the 1.2% guideline for units first occupied after this date. The Landlord must give 90 days notice before any rent increase and it is imperative that any notices are done on the proper forms.
